December 14th at 2:30PM. TJ Moss will be premiering "Christmas Lights" from New's latest project, Looking Around, Looking Back, which will receive its first reading in Spring 2009. Joel will be featured at Lincoln Center for the third time on Monday, January 26th, 2009 in a Songbook concert comprised entirely of his work and featuring several Broadway stars. The concert series is free and open to the

The acclaimed Songbook series -- produced, directed and hosted by John F. Znidarsic -- has found a new home for its 18th season: The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts' Bruno Walter Auditorium. The new season of the series, which is presented by Arts and Artists at St. Paul's, will kick off Oct. 27. The free 6 PM concert will feature new songs penned by up-n-coming composers and lyricists. Among the tunes heard will be Justin Daniel performing "Better than Fine" from Joel B. New's Stand Clear.The Bruno Walter Auditorium is located at 40 Lincoln Center Plaza. This coming Friday, September 26th, singing actress Jennifer Maria Sanchez performs her rendition of "Say Hello," a song from Joel B. New's Stand Clear, in NYMF's Next Broadway Sensation talent competition semi-finals. "This week’s theme is 'It’s Not a Revival, It’s a Revolution' and will feature songs from some of the most exciting contemporary musical theater writers: Michael Arden, Joe Iconis, Kait Kerrigan & Brian Lowdermilk, Chris Miller & Nathan Tysen, Joel B.  Clear Space Productions is once again including Joel B. New's music and lyrics in its annual New Works Festival! They will be presenting "Nice Night for a Walk" from Joel's Looking Around, Looking Back. The album musical, loosely based on the story of Orpheus and Eurydice, is being written for vocalist TJ Moss and developed with Moss and director Jessica Hutchinson. On June 16th, several selections from the Joel B. New songbook were performed at a senior showcase at the Black Box Waterfront Theater in Burlington, Massachusetts.  Erin Kruse returns to the Don't Tell Mama Cabaret and Piano Bar stage on Monday, May 19th. The evening's set consists of classic and contemporary songs from the musical theatre canon, including "Here In Line" from Joel B. Joel proudly received a grant from the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation today "for his vision, talent and dedication to a career in the performing arts." In his acceptance speech, he said "the name 'Jonathan Larson' has come to represent to me the passion and dedication that the legacy of musical theatre so desperately needs. A by-invitation-only developmental reading of Awakening: A New Musical is being presented in Manhattan Jan. 11. Directed by Jen Bender with musical direction by Christopher D. Littlefield, the starry cast features Julia Murney (Wicked), Lisa Howard (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee), Patrick Ryan Sullivan (A Perfect Crime), Aaron Ramey (Curtains), Charlie Brady (The Burnt Part Boys) and Mary Testa (Xanadu). The company also includes Tiffan Borelli, Nick Cearley, Michael D. Galyon, Tim Hausmann, Carrie Love, Christine Paterson, Danny Rothman and Morgan Springer. Based on the novella by Kate Chopin, Awakening features music by J. Oconer Navarro and lyrics by Joel B. New; the duo collaborated on the show's book. Set in 1899 Louisiana, Awakening, according to press notes, "tells the story of Edna Pontellier, a young mother of two and the wife of a successful New Orleans businessman. While the family is vacationing at a seaside resort, Edna becomes acquainted with Robert Lebrun, a younger man who sparks feelings that Edna had forgotten. When she returns to the city, Edna throws off the trappings of her old life ( devotion to family, attention to societal expectations, and adherence to tradition ) to explore her own wants, interests, and desires. But her independence comes with a price." Joel's song "Outgoing" was included in a Broadway Cares benefit cabaret on Monday, December 3rd, performed by JBN regular Roy Lightner. Lightner is currently appearing in the Alabama Shakespeare Festival's production of Peter Pan. Back from Rehoboth Beach!

Joel just returned from attending Clear Space Productions' 2007 New Works Festival. Dana Paragallo and Kate Green performed "For A Change" and "Only Time Will Tell," respectively, from his song cycle Stand Clear. Margo Lion, Ltd. (Radio Golf, Hairspray) presented a reading of Awakening's first act on July 13th, 2007 at NYU's Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program. Directed by Jen Bender (The Lion King, Avenue Q). The principal cast included Jim Weitzer (Little Women, The Phantom of the Opera) as Robert, Farah Alvin (Nine, Pirates!) as Edna, Graham Rowat (LoveMusik, Beauty & the Beast) as Leonce, and Gay Marshall (Jacques Brel, A Chorus Line) as Mademoiselle Reisz. A friend and collaborator of Joel's, composer/lyricist J. Oconer Navarro presented a set of songs on January 29th, 2007, in Dreamlight Theatre Company's "Bright Lights" series at The Triad. Among the songs performed was "Dream Away," a new number from New & Navarro's award-winning musical Awakening.
